Porticos
35th St. found typography; ancient, immobile and gritty.
This morning I awoke with an unusual abruptness. It was 7:30 and, well, still quite early for some. I went straight outside. The weather was perfect and in my not-so-normal tendency to not want to "waste it" I decided to go out and take pictures. Not too many people out there but more than you would think. I saw a tattooed man with his shirt off and his dog. Some men were already drinking beers around their truck, talking. I might have seen someone I knew (but they don't know that).
Then I drove down some more streets (all to familiar to me) and wondered if I would grow old in this humdrum town, or if there was some other blamjam town I should be looking into for my wacko life. I guess this happens to me often, or it used to. Not so much anymore really, these thoughts passed quickly. I have pretty much resigned myself to the idea that 'nothing happens anywhere unless you make it happen' anyway. You see, I don't really want much anymore; I won't get into it here but let's just say its getting easier and it's simpler than it used to be.
Near the end of this outing I heard "you took the silver, you took the gold, you left me standing out in the cold..." And then I went back home.

absurdism
There is nothing I love more than as much as I love the absurd, and this is simply a perfect and delightful example of such nothingness beauty.

coffee and dogfish head
i spent two hours in a coffeehouse today, outside the cold rain. i drank coffee and then ended with a beer. there were lots of people there. it is cold, winter thinks its here. there were computers and people playing scrabble and pictionary. they played ryan adams, john lennon and that awesome beatles song that goes, "nothings gonna change my world" and i thought the same damn thing. yes!
RV Trip 2007 clips
A word of warning: This video is probably super boring if you weren't on this RV trip. There is little skating and many pointless clips, all taken with my point-and-shoot digital camera in 2007. The movie clips were on my hard drive doing nothing and I was bored this weekend so I put them together.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

Make
Okay, I am awesome at basketball. I just wanted to put that out there. Look at the form—damn, I should be pro! NBA status! Any doubts that this was a make should be laid to rest upon close inspection of that form! It's all in the wrist . . . arrrrrghhhh!#

The Little Vagabond

Dear mother, dear mother, the church is cold,
But the ale-house is healthy and pleasant and warm;
Besides I can tell where I am used well,
Such usage in Heaven will never do well.
But if at the church they would give us some ale,
And a pleasant fire our souls to regale,
We'd sing and we'd pray all the live-long day,
Nor ever once wish from the church to stray.
Then the parson might preach, and drink, and sing,
And we'd be as happy as birds in the spring;
And modest Dame Lurch, who is always at church,
Would not have bandy children, nor fasting, nor birch.
And God, like a father rejoicing to see
His children as pleasant and happy as he,
Would have no more quarrel with the Devil or the barrel,
But kiss him, and give him both drink and apparel.

Switch on Fall.
so here i am october, one month without–same old, same all.
i assume i will blog again like regular. i imagine i will pontificate and bore
and ramble and share things.
maybe i will just be full of myself again, as i should?
every one else is.
maybe i will make inside jokes that look good on the outside.
maybe i will make no sense at all. that would be the best–my favorite thing.
maybe i will skip rocks across the lake.
maybe i will get a christian slater tattoo.
either way, anyway, i plan to look the other way on most of wht is going on for now.
its not for me and, well, i have to say, it was nice to be away.
not that i accomplished anything grand, just worked alot (*and well, yeah, that too).
now i am headed away today, for a porch overlooking the sea.
it's morning now, and i am about to eat a clementine and sing.
my eyes are sore from working on the keyboard.
welcome back blog, good to see you again.
i guess.
