coffee and dogfish head

i spent two hours in a coffeehouse today, outside the cold rain. i drank coffee and then ended with a beer. there were lots of people there. it is cold, winter thinks its here.  there were computers and people playing scrabble and pictionary. they played ryan adams, john lennon and that awesome beatles song that goes, "nothings gonna change my world" and i thought the same damn thing. yes!

RV Trip 2007 clips

A word of warning: This video is probably super boring if you weren't on this RV trip. There is little skating and many pointless clips, all taken with my point-and-shoot digital camera in 2007. The movie clips were on my hard drive doing nothing and I was bored this weekend so I put them together.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

Make

Okay, I am awesome at basketball.  I just wanted to put that out there. Look at the form—damn, I should be pro!  NBA status! Any doubts that this was a make should be laid to rest upon close inspection of that form! It's all in the wrist . . . arrrrrghhhh!#

poetry

Apparently the UK's 16th National Poetry Day falls on Thursday 8 October 2009.
Here is a poem.

my pet goat

i dont know what to blog about anymore.
here is an image of goats i saw on the side of the road last week, coming back from the outer banks.
they told me about "the things they'd seen" and i asked them to pose for a picture after we had some coffee.

The Little Vagabond

Dear mother, dear mother, the church is cold,
But the ale-house is healthy and pleasant and warm;
Besides I can tell where I am used well,
Such usage in Heaven will never do well.

But if at the church they would give us some ale,
And a pleasant fire our souls to regale,
We'd sing and we'd pray all the live-long day,
Nor ever once wish from the church to stray.

Then the parson might preach, and drink, and sing,
And we'd be as happy as birds in the spring;
And modest Dame Lurch, who is always at church,
Would not have bandy children, nor fasting, nor birch.

And God, like a father rejoicing to see
His children as pleasant and happy as he,
Would have no more quarrel with the Devil or the barrel,
But kiss him, and give him both drink and apparel.

Switch on Fall.

keyboard
so here i am october, one month without–same old, same all.
i assume i will blog again like regular. i imagine i will pontificate and bore
and ramble and share things.
maybe i will just be full of myself again, as i should?
every one else is.

maybe i will make inside jokes that look good on the outside.
maybe i will make no sense at all. that would be the best–my favorite thing.
maybe i will skip rocks across the lake.
maybe i will get a christian slater tattoo.

either way, anyway, i plan to look the other way on most of wht is going on for now.
its not for me and, well, i have to say, it was nice to be away.
not that i accomplished anything grand, just worked alot (*and well, yeah, that too).
now i am headed away today, for a porch overlooking the sea.
it's morning now, and i am about to eat a clementine and sing.
my eyes are sore from working on the keyboard.
welcome back blog, good to see you again.

i guess.

Nick Campbell

I started following Nick Campbell, aka GreyScaleGorilla, when I was learning After Effects. He is a pretty talented guy, working in motion graphics, photography, iPhone dev, etc. I think he lives in Chicago. I saw this on his blog and had to re-post it here. It's pretty amazing, and he gives tons of details on his blog, including tutorials, etc.

Anniversary III

a quick stop/night in charlottesville, playtime with a small baby and then brews with an old bro on the corner. then curviest of curvy mountain roads with no yellow double lines or affirmative signs, through deerfield, green land in all directions.
a day-visit to the homestead, lunch, then check-in. swimming and exploring.

morning coffee and eats, solo skinny-dip in a spring-fed river, kayak upstream and back, chased deer into the brush, saw two snakes, mountain biked with buzzing, winged creatures small and large (saw more deer, even baby ones like bambi jumping into tall cornstalks—amazing!)
kissed and made the world a better place for a few moments on the porch with wine in the middle of a monday afternoon, forgetting about everything and everyone for awhile was nice, but fleeting—oh but a moment. ate delicious local mountain food grown on the farm and looked up at the sky at night, early to bed early to rise.
then we went home i guess.

i'm not so into sharing these days (but i guess i can't help some).
keep it to yourself brendan.
sorry.

Really?

First

This is the first handrail I ever slid, in 1993, when I was in 8th grade. I'm not sure if I ever actually landed it but I slid it all day long, and every time it was scary as shit but I kept doing it because I used to love scaring myself to shit. I'm less into scaring myself to shit these days, but its still fun every once in awhile, under the right conditions.

Tyler's probably better than you.

Tyler Tufty killed it at 29 this year. He won best trick. He did many best tricks, but these are all I got caught in pixels.
Down the picnic table: Backside Noseblunt to regular and to fakie, Fakie ollie fakie 5-0 and nollie heelflip noseslide. Damn, he still got it! Oh and that's the legendary "Tom Penny of Alexandria" Brendan Kelley, in the background by the way, he switch flipped the picnic table about an hour before these shots were taken (in about 4 tries, nbd). You probably think you could do it but you can't. Tyler's probably better than you. Berzerkers forever.

Fuck Ringling Bros forever and always

"Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. That’s why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is… if you don’t risk everything, you risk even more."

Tony Hawk Experience

This is truly hilarious/amazing. Tony Hawk (who I follow on Twitter) posted this and kinda got some shit for it. At first I thought it was pretty lame, but all proceeds go to his foundation, which builds skateparks in low income areas like Compton.

Thirty one is a big number.

Today I celebrate my birthday and I wanted to be sure everyone online knew about it. I got a nice long card from Facebook for that. So thanks Facebook, for making life strange in so many ways and birthdays super-celebrated online! And thanks mom for having me.

One of the coolest things I got for my birthday so far, online, was this awesomely strange picture. So thanks Dave O.

Live it.

"And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine
But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only."

My car on Bing!

Bing is Microsoft's wannabe Google, and I think I just found my car on its "Maps." It has a pretty cool "birds eye" view function a little different than Google. Much better for finding the best pools in your hood! Dogtown!

The essence of what it all means to me

"If we're lucky, writer and reader alike, we'll finish the last line or two of a short story and then just sit for a minute, quietly.
Ideally, we'll ponder what we've just written or read; maybe our hearts or our intellects will have been moved off the peg just a little from where they were before. Our body temperature will have gone up, or down, by a degree. Then, breathing evenly and steadily once more, we'll collect ourselves, writers and readers alike, get up, "created of warm blood and nerves", as a Chekhov character puts it, and go on to the next thing: Life. Always life."
